Very Light Facial Moisturiser

Facial moisturisers are different I think, to all over moisturisers as the skin on the face requires extra special care.
In addition to being constantly exposed to the elements, the skin on the face is also subjected to the harshest "therapy". Over scrubbing, cleansing with products that irritate and strip the skin further.
Some are prone to acne, hyperpigmentation and other challenges that can be alleviated with some tender loving care.
Try this light moisturiser, using it on your face after cleansing and toning. While this recipe uses carrot seed essential oil which is considered to offer some sun protective qualities, there is nothing wrong with using additional sun protection.
This recipe is in the category of an emulsion- that is- it is an oil and water mixture. Of course, this means that we will need an emulsifier to hold the ingredients together with a nice, creamy (even buttery) consistency.
OILS CHOSEN CAREFULLY
The main oils in this recipe were chosen carefully. Jojoba oil, for example is not even a true oil, but rather, a liquid wax ester which mimics human sebum. It absorbs quickly into the skin without greasy residue and will not clog the pores,
Packed with linoleic acids, Argan oil does a great job of repairing the skin barrier and getting sluggish sebum moving again. It is suitable for all skin types and like jojoba oil, will not clog the pores.
CARROT SEED OIL
Carrot seed oil is underrated in its performance on the skin. Choose the essential oil and not cheap, watered down versions in the pharmacy. Carrot seed oil is particularly useful for aging skin as it helps to neutralise free radicals (which can cause premature aging). As mentioned before, it offers some protection against sun damage.
PH ADJUSTED:
The very best facial moisturisers have a slightly acidic PH (5.5). You will need a PH strip or a PH reader.

Prepare the phases separately. All ingredients are weighed.
THE RECIPE
WATER PHASE
6 ounces Distilled water
6.8 ounces Rose water
OIL PHASE
0.5 ounce jojoba oil
0.8 ounce argan oil
0.3 ounce carrot seed oil
0.6 ounce emulsifying wax
0.6 ounce cetyl alcohol
0.3 ounce stearic acid
PH ADJUSTMENT
3.17 ounces distilled water
0.35 ounce citric acid
COOL DOWN PHASE
0.16 ounce Pure Vitamin E
0.16 ounce Optiphen plus
METHOD
Prepare the phases of the recipe separately
1. Weigh the distilled water and the rose water. Heat this to a boiling stage. You can turn off the heat when the water boils. (I usually boil my water just in case there are any microorganisms in there)
2. Weigh all the ingredients in the oil phase and combine them. Jojoba oil, Argan oil, Carrot Seed oil, Emulsifying wax, Cetyl alcohol and the Stearic Acid. Heat all of the ingredients until all the solid ingredients have completely melted.
3. Pour the melted oils into the water. Use the stick blender to combine. Allow this mixture to cool down. As it cools, it will thicken. Pulse with the stick blender every so often to remove any lumps.
4. While you wait for the mixture to cool, mix the Citric Acid Solution. (PH Adjustment). Weigh 3.17 ounces distilled water and to it add 0.35 ounce citric acid. Stir until all the citric acid is dissolved,
5. When the mixture is thickened but is still somewhat runny (110 F) add 10 drops of the citric acid solution. Test the PH. It should read about 5.5. if not, add drops until it get there.
6. Once the PH is adjusted, add the Optiphen plus and the Pure Vitamin E. Combine thoroughly.
7. Transfer the cooled emulsion into jars. Cover only when it has cooled down completely.
NOTES:
The Optiphen Plus must be added to a cooled mixture.
No artificial fragrance is used in this recipe as it may irritate sensitive skin.
