How to Make beautiful Goat's Milk Soaps. Three important tips

For me, less is more when it comes to creating luxury, handmade soaps. I particularly like the feel of Goat's Milk Soaps and decided to create an entire line of Tobago Goat's Milk Soaps which contain no artificial ingredients. The greatest benefit is that these soaps are what can be described as "clean" with no artificial colourants or fragrances. They are therefore, perfect for those persons who are experiencing the pains of hormonal imbalance. Clean skin care is the healthiest way to go.

Of course, I source the Goat's Milk right here in Tobago from AT Farms Limited because I know I'll get the very best milk there is.

While soap makers have very different ways of incorporating goat's milk into their Cold Process Bars, I'm going to share tips that I use to get the creamiest, smoothest goat's milk soaps any where.

Take a look at this Tobago Goat's Milk and Chocolate handcrafted soap. I used authentic Tobago chocolate with an oil combination of Organic Coconut Oil, Olive Oil and Shea Butter. I did not use fragrance, but you can choose to include fragrance if that's what you prefer.

GOAT'S MILK HANDMADE SOAP RECIPE

Base Oils

27 ounces Organic Coconut oil
4 ounces Olive oil
1 ounce Shea Butter

Lye Solution

5 ounces lye crystals
7 ounces distilled water

Additive
3 ounces pasteurised goat's milk

3 IMPORTANT TIPS

1. Pull back on the distilled water. I used relatively little water in this formula- just enough to ensure that the lye crystals are fully dissolved. This is because the Goat's Milk will make up the rest of the liquid in this recipe. (There is no need to adjust this recipe as I have already discounted the water)

It is extremely important that when you add the lye crystals to the distilled water, that you stir thoroughly to ensure that all the lye is in fact, dissolved.

2. Add the Goat's Milk to the oil combination. I add the goat's milk to the oils because, I particularly dislike adding lye to anything except distilled water.

There are soap makers who will add the lye directly to the milk and I've seen this work well for them. This is not my practice. Once I have weighed my oils and fats and combined them, I add the goat's milk to this oil mixture.

3. Use Cold Goat's Milk. The added, natural sugar in goat's milk may heat up the soap mixture. Additionally, because of the large proportion of coconut oil in the formulation, this soap will get very hot.  I use goat's milk which is cold AND to prevent the soaps from going through the gel phase (even cracking) after they are poured, I place my poured soap in the freezer for an hour and a half immediately after they are poured.

The soap making process remains the same generally speaking. If you don't have immediate access to goat's milk like I do, regular full cream milk will do in the interim.

Goat's milk cold processed soap bars are wonderfully nourishing for the skin, moisturising the driest skin which is prone to scaly patches, eczema and psoriasis.

Goat's milk soap can soothe inflamed (sunburnt) and generally damaged skin. The clean nature of these soaps means that they are great for ladies experiencing the hormonal swings of perimenopause, menopause, PCOS, fibroids and more.

If you love the look of my Goat's Milk Bars you may want to try your own. I formulate my own recipes very carefully. All soaps are superfatted, so there is the added benefit of a gentler bar every time.
